CAMP FACILITIES: Laurel Ridge Summer Camp has 4 Lodge units, each with 4 sleeping cabins. The Lodges house a meeting space with a fireplace, a small kitchen, and bathroom facilities including showers. The sleeping cabins have bunk beds and single beds and can sleep 12 people in each unit. There is a commercial kitchen with a Dining Hall, an Activity Center for basketball and other games, a 3 acre lake for swimming and canoeing, and miles of hiking trails with breathtaking views. We also have a sports slab for outdoor games like basketball, dodge-ball, volleyball, and square dancing! There is a Group Interactive Course that is excellent for team building and confidence boosting exercises. For adult groups or business organizations, Laurel Ridge has a 48 room hotel and conference center with small to large meeting spaces and a full service kitchen and staff to host your next leadership conference or retreat! All of our volunteer counselors and paid staff undergo background and drug testing before they can be accepted as part of summer staff. Our kitchen staff is led by ServSafe certified cooks and food handlers. In 2018 we offer 4 Mission Camp opportunities - a chance to reach into the community with a caring touch and help families in need with physical labor and repair on homes and landscaping. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Wayfarer is a traditional summer camp, but it is more. It is a family consisting of campers, counselors, alumni, and parents that are building new traditions in a young and growing camp! Wayfarer offers a unique opportunity for campers to grow based on a firm foundation of spiritual, physical, mental, and social development.

Campers learn to make good decisions and become independent leaders by living in a supportive camp family.

Our bootcamps give students an in-depth opportunity to learn concepts that are normally taught at the university level, while our workshops serve as a fantastic introduction to a new subject. In order to make engineering education more accessible, our digital kits are always free to everyone and allow students to create something awesome. Each weekday morning, Maker will post a new project or activity on their Google+ page—30 things to make over six weeks. Each weekday afternoon at 2 PM, tune in to a live Google+ Hangout On Air to meet expert makers who create amazing things.

CAMP FACILITIES: One in-person camp will be held at the Georgetown Public Library in July 2025, located in Sussex County, DE.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Beginner coding skills are taught helping children learn sequencing and terms that grown up coders use everyday to create video games and more. Math and Science activities engage your child in learning and our ARTS program helps students understand how computer artists work in the field.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: This program can also be delivered through our TUTORING service by appointment during the summer.

CAMP SESSION DATES & FEES:
Online camps such as summer, holiday and school break camps run for 2.5 hours and cost $55 for the session.
1-hour classes run all year long and currently cost $20 per class.

CAMP FACILITIES: PARI offers a state-of-the-art research building with optical and radio telescopes, various earth science instruments and the Astronomical Photographic Data Archive. PARI is used by thousands of researchers, educators and students who have benefited from our programs. Outside, our campus is dotted with four massive radio telescopes, including “Smiley” (a visitor favorite) and has become special attractions of travelers to the region.

Our dorm rooms include bunk beds, desks, and dressers and can sleep up to six occupants.

PARI’s Dinning Hall serves up delicious and nutritious meals for large groups of guests and campers, including those with special dietary restrictions.

Our signature and most academically intensive camp explores the universe through astronomy, physics, and astrobiology. Use real research-grade instruments and data to investigate objects like super-nova remnants and distant star clusters. One small step as a space explorer, one giant step in launching your career in space.

Mission Control Camp: Martian Frontier
-Do you have what it takes to plan a mission to another planet?
Gain confidence, learn space science, and strive to make it to Mars in this combination role-play—academic camp. The wide variety of topics makes this camp a good fit for a range of interests. You’ll tackle challenges in space craft and habitat design, astronaut health and well-being, and capturing public interest while swaying others to support your plan.

Clemson & PARI Summer Camps

Milky Way Trailblazers:
-Map the Milky Way and plot a path for future explorers!
Discover how to chart the distribution of hydrogen gas and its movement in our home galaxy as a galactic cartographer. You’ll use giant NASA built radio telescopes to uncover data that can’t be captured any other way. This camp is part of a partnership with Clemson University and includes a field trip to their astronomy research labs.

Secrets of a Spy Station
Encrypted messages, codes, and ciphers!
What better setting than PARI, which once operated as a spy station for the Department of Defense during the Cold War, where messages were being intercepted and deciphered? Another element in the sending of secrets is how you transport them from place to place. We’ll take a look at the technologies, both past and present, that allow information to zip out to distant satellites and back down to Earth. How do we make sure our sensitive transmissions don’t end up in the wrong hands?

Or learn how crucial computer science is to space exploration when you dive into cryptography and satellite communications. If mission control calls to you, come plan your own mission to another planet, your trajectory, crew and rocket at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute's Space Exploration Camps.

PARI Space Exploration Camps is a unique site, rich in space science history, and is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where an abundance of adventures await. From tubing to waterfall swimming and roller skating, there are fun, refreshing activities for everyone.

Partnering with PARI to host some of these camps is Clemson University for our second year in a row! This partnership has expanded the reach of PARI camps to even more kids nationwide and include field trips to their campus and the opportunity to learn about their higher learning offerings.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
We are looking for candidates who are interested in taking on two roles:
Part of the summer will consist of hands-on education, research, and recreational activities with campers and becoming a role model and guide for their exploration of STEM and space science.

- Off-screen activities for independent play and learning (and naps! and yard time!)
- Hands-on activities with real art materials (art camp should be a little messy!)

Camp Staff:
Katerina Romanenko, Ph.D. Assistant Director of Youth and Family Programs

An experienced educator and visual culture historian, Dr. Romanenko specializes in Museum education, art history, American History, and object-based learning in formal and informal environments. She holds a PhD in Art History from the City University of New York and for more than 15 years teaches art history and works in Museum education. She also holds a BA in Education Sciences and has experience in research, development and implementation of educational programs for different age groups.

Alicia Mino, Art Educator, Manager of the School and Community Programs

An accomplished practicing artists and art educator, Alicia Mino received her Master’s in visual communication from the Metropolitan University of Chile, She spent fifteen years in Italy studying art history, oil painting, and sculpture. She presented in numerous art exhibitions and founded the Mates Art and Design Studio, where she taught drawing, oil/acrylic painting, and sculpture fundamentals for ten years. In 2008 Alicia moved to Philadelphia where she continues to exhibit her work and teaches art.

Lindsey Murphy, Art Educator and K-8 Program Coordinator

An art educator with over a decade of experience in the field of education, Lindsey Murphy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology; concentration in Archaeology from Millersville University, and an Elementary Teaching Certification from Millersville University. She worked as a general education classroom teacher in the Oxford Area School District in Chester County, PA for 8 years, and has worked in PAFA’s education department over the past 11 years creating and implementing numerous museum tours and art making experiences for children and families of all backgrounds, becoming the K-8 Program Coordinator in 2019..

Melissa Hendrixson, Art Educator

Melissa Hendrixson is an artist and art educator who has worked in Museum Education for over five years. She has her Bachelor's of Fine Arts and Studio Certificate from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and has gained experience through assisting the coordination and development of various museum programming including family programs, youth art classes, and summer camps. She now works for the School and Community Partnership Program as an art educator where she develops and implements museum tours, school lessons, and community outreach programs to support student learning, parental engagement and visual literacy initiatives.
